Finally now that the dust has settled with Google’s C&D. Cyanogen has released a “bare bones” MOD version 4.1.999 the first “legal” version of CyanogenMod.  You must have a rooted  G1 or MyTouch  phone to install this MOD. The installation process is slightly more complicated the first time around, and you’ll need to agree and understand HTC’s licensing terms

TMoNews has it on pretty good authority (that usually means you can take it to the bank) that Donut is on deck. Beginning at midnight (Oct 1st) select G1 owners with un-hacked devices will be getting Android 1.6 OTA! 24 hours later, if all goes well, myTouch owners will start to see the the notification.

This is totally out of left field, but TmoNews (which tends to have a pretty solid track record when it comes to all things T-Mobile) is claiming that “select” G1s will be receiving Android 1.6 “Donut” starting… well, right about now. So much for any lingering worries that the first retail Android device was being left high and dry , eh

Unfortunately the rumored $0.00 price point for the Motorola CLIQ on T-mobile USA has been expunged.  In a press release from Motorola this morning, the manufacturer announced that when the device launches in early November it will be sold for $199.99 with a tw0-year T-mobile service agreement.  The logical reason for this price point is to maintain sales of the aging T-mobile G1 and the recent T-mobile MyTouch 3G, but we can’t say we aren’t disappointed. This is the first week I have traveled with my iPod and not used it at all thanks to my G1 and the myTouch 3G.  As posted in a previous article I have an extended battery for the G1 so it has an actual standby of a week now and after watching several movies the battery meter only went down 25%.  The culprit of the G1’s battery strength is cell standby so it’s not just the improved battery but the benefit of not using it as a phone that keeps it alive.
